New gun laws for Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- If you have a permit to carry a handgun, Tennessee will now let you carry it into bars and restaurants that serve alcohol, provided the bar and restaurant owners doesn't object.

You also can carry that gun in wildlife areas.

Governor Bredesen signed both into law this week, and they took effect immediately.

A new law also will let off-duty law officers carry their weapons in bars and restaurants, regardless of what the owners say.

But that law doesn't take effect until Monday.

Supporters say they had to make sure law officers have the same privileges as civilians, though they had to wait three more days to get them.
