Pelosi Elected First Woman House Speaker

Capitol Hill (AP) -- Her six grandchildren were with her for the historic moment, when Nancy Pelosi collected enough votes to make her the first woman Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The 66-year-old San Francisco Democrat broke through what she calls the "marble ceiling" with family members and celebrities like Richard Gere and Tony Bennett, of "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" fame, looking on.

Pelosi's prepared remarks for the occasion calling it a historic moment, not just for Congress, but for American women.
