State Election Coordinator: Vote Has to Wait Until 2008

Knoxville (WVLT) - The Coordinator of Elections for the State of Tennessee says a special election to replace the term-limited county commissioners and office holders is not possible.

In a letter released Tuesday night, Brook Thompson directs the Knox County Election Commission to hold the election on August 7th of 2008.

A primary election may be called in February or May of next year.

Knox County is supposed to address the issue at its next regularly scheduled meeting next Monday.

Meanwhile, defense attorney Herb Moncier has filed a motion asking federal courts to consider a special election to replace Sheriff Tim Hutchison.
