Nashville (AP) -- Nashville Police patrolling crowded Downtown streets are upgrading from bicycles to motorized scooters to cover more ground while still avoiding traffic jams.
Four Downtown officers and one in Hermitage are trained to ride the scooters.
The Nashville Police Department has also tried Segways, the self-balancing, two-wheeled vehicles that propel riders standing up. The department decided not to use them for patrols.
Meanwhile Memphis Police officers also use scooters to patrol Beale Street. A portion of the funds for the scooters came from Downtown merchants and the Memphis' Center City Commission.
