Berry Hopes New Sheriff Will Work to Solve Daughter's Murder

Knoxville (WVLT) - It's been more than two years since johnia berry was murdered in her Knoxville apartment.

Her mother, Joan Berry, is in town Friday night for a community meeting to discuss the case.

The meeting will take place at the Cokesbury Center on Kingston Pike at six o'clock.

She stopped by WVLT earlier Friday to talk to us about how a sheriff department shake-up could affect her daughter's case.

Joan Berry hopes the meeting that is set to start here in the next few minutes will remind the community there is still a killer in the area, and more needs to be done.

That's what she hopes the new sheriff, whoever that may be, will be able to do.

Joan says someone from the sheriff's department is expected at the meeting Friday night.

She says she's looking forward to working with the new sheriff and doesn't think a change up will affect the case.

"I just hope that he uses all of the resources that he has available to him and working on Johnia's case," Berry says.

In a statement, the Sheriff's Department says: "detectives with the Knox County Sheriff's Office continue to actively investigate the murder of Johnia Berry. DNA has been obtained from several more individuals in the past month. Investigators targeted those people through tips and leads."
