Tenn. Court Allows Chinese Parents To Reclaim Daughter

Nashville (AP) -- The Tennessee Supreme Court cleared the way Tuesday for a Chinese couple to reunite with a daughter they put in foster care at Memphis almost eight years ago.

The court overturned a decision by a Memphis judge who had taken away the parental rights of Shaoqiang and Qin Luo He, ruling that they had abandoned the child.

Their daughter, Anna Mae he, has been living with Jerry and Louise Baker in suburban Memphis since she was three weeks old. Anna Mae turns eight later this month.

The Supreme Court said the Hes intended for their daughter to live with the Bakers temporarily so she would be covered by health insurance.

The Supreme Court sent the case back to the Shelby County Juvenile Court, where the custody fight began, and ordered it to resolve the dispute "with a view toward reunification" of Anna Mae with her biological parents.
