UPDATED: Winter Storm Warnings Issued for East Tennessee

Knoxville (WVLT) - A Winter Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service to take effect this morning through Friday morning for parts of East Tennessee.

The Warning includes the higher elevations of Blount, Cocke, Greene, Monroe and Sevier Counties in the Smoky Mountains. Snowfall amounts could range between 4 to 9 inches of snow in the higher terrain.

A Warning has also been issued for Cumberland, Fentress, Morgan, Scott, Campbell, Claiborne and Hancock Counties for the same time period. Snow totals there may range between 4 to 6 inches.

Around the Knoxville area a snow advisory has been issued. Accumulations of 1 to 4 inches are possible. We may also see freezing rain and sleet before the mixture turns to rain late in the day.
