LaFollette, Campbell County (WVLT) People are gathering to pay respects to the late county mayor Tuesday.

Jeff Hall lost his battle with lung cancer over the weekend.

Volunteer TV's Stacy McCloud has more on how the community is saying goodbye and how the woman sworn as an interim mayor plans on filling Hall's shoes.

Well over 100 orders for plants and flowers are being processed at Ideal Florist.

Florists are perfecting the spread of white roses and lilies that will cover Mayor Hall's casket.

Delivery workers pack vans full of orders expressing sorrows and sympathies to the family of a man friends and colleagues say wanted nothing more than to see their small town prosper.

Josh Parker says, "this county has lost a very important man. A man that had a vision to take this county from where we were to the best it could become."

As each arrangement is carried into the church where Hall will be remembered, wreaths hang in memory of him at the courthouse.

Parker continues, "Jeff laid a foundation that in just six months could really boom this county to the highest it could be"

However, behind those doors life must move on.

Ann smith, Chairman Protemp of the County Commission is being sworn in as interim mayor.

Promising not to just assume the responsibilities of the role but to fulfill the dreams of a friend.

"One thing I will adhere to, is what he was doing keep that going for some time."

For how long, Smith isn't sure.

But with a final stamp of approval, she's officially in office for now.

A bitter sweet moment that hold hopes of legacy yet to be fulfilled.

Parker says, "the people in Campbell County want Campbell County to move forward. I know she has that same vision"

Smith will hold office until the County Commission appoints a person to take over until the next mayoral election in August of next year.

There is no time limit for this to happen.

Burial is Wednesday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Campbell County Cancer Association or the Elm Grove Baptist Church Van Fund.
