Boy Scouts Honor Bill Frist

Knoxville (WVLT) - A special honor today for former U.S. Senator Bill Frist.

The Boy Scouts named Frist its Distinguished Citizen for 2007. The former Senate Majority Leader was honored at a special dinner Monday night. Boy Scout leaders say Frist's dedication to public service is why they chose him for the honor.

"We couldn't think of a better individual, certainly been in the public service for a number of years in Washington representing our great state of Tennessee, but also all U.S. citizens and leadership positions representing himself and the great state of Tennessee in a great fashion," former Great Smoky Mountain Council president Larry Mauldin said.

The Distinguished Citizen Award even honors every year an East Tennessee citizen for outstanding service to the community.
