Happy Homecoming For Local Soldiers

Knoxville (WVLT) - Several members of the 134th Air Refueling Wing step off a plane in Knoxville Tuesday night after six long months in Iraq. Waiting for them just outside the terminial - bounds of appreciation for all their hard work from their families, friends, and co-workers.

Kelli Parker has more on the celebration.

It's a moment that couldn't get here soon enough. Hugs of reassurance, faces they haven't seen in months and long stares from the eyes that have spent the last few weeks looking across the front lines in Iraq. Now they're home.

"Happy to see my kids wife and family," Tech. Sergeant Jeff Griffith said.

Or extended family. Maria Hooks and Melinda Heatherly are here to welcome home co-worker Daren Hatter.

Second deployment we just missed him terrible and can't wait to see him have him back at work," co-worker Maria Hooks said.

"Praying for everyone still there praying for their safe return home," co-worker Melinda Heatherly said.

And this group of church members welcomes home one of their own Burt Rider.

"She's been fighting for our country," church member Molly Deakins said.

"We want to show her our support tell her we love her," church member Kelley Parrish said.

Moments that will forever change these lives.

"Getting back to being a family again," Griffith said.
