Two People in Custody in Blount County Stand Off

Blount County (WVLT) - A tense night for authorities in Blount County after they were called to the scene of a stand off.

Deputies say they went ot the hom in the Kensington Place Mobile Home Park at about 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night, after a woman said her boyfriend, 65-year-old Lester Boling pulled a gun on her.

They say Boling then barricaded himself inside his mobile home, forcing deputies to evacuate dozens of nearby homes.

Investigators say they made contact with Boling and tried to get him to surrender several times. After about two hours, he came out peacefully.

"We decided to do a throw phone, a communications device, through a window. Shortly after we deployed that device, the front door came open and the gentleman exited the house," chief deputy Ron Dunn said.

"They said they were evacuating people out of here. There was somebody with a high powered rifle in here and that they were trying to clear out as many folks as they could," neighbor Fergus Murphy said.

"I just called 911 and they told me someone was in their house, and they held themselves up in their house, and I needed to stay in my house and lock the door," neighbor Brad Murphy said.

The sheriff's department says Lester Boling is facing aggravated assualt.

During the stand-off, they say Boling's son, Lester Boling Jr, arrived and deputies found a pistol in his vehicle, for which he did not have a permit. He was taken into custody and charged with possession of a firearm with intent to go armed.
