Residents Near Wolf Creek Dam Getting Weather Radios

Frankfort, KY (AP) -- Kentucky officials have announced that residents living in the potential flood path of a Southeastern Kentucky dam are eligible for free weather radios.

Residents and businesses within the counties that could be flooded if Lake Cumberland's Wolf Creek Dam failed may start getting free weather radios Saturday. The eligible counties include Clinton, Cumberland, Monroe and Russell.

Officials are concerned that a failure at the dam would cause flooding in Kentucky and Tennessee cities along the Cumberland River.

Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher says it's essential that the state take care of every Kentuckian living below the dam.

Jason Keller of the Kentucky Homeland Security Office says the state spent about $47,000 on 1800 Midland NOAA weather radios.
