Commission Will Use Late Tax Fines for Schools

Knoxville (WVLT) - Knox Countians who don't pay their property taxes on-time, could ultimately be giving more money to county schools.

County commission approved a measure to give 10% of delinquent tax payments to Knox County Schools, when the money is collected.

Another ten percent of the money will still go to the attorneys that help collect the cash.

Commissioners hope that some of the money will go to buy textbooks, but they stopped short of earmarking how the monies will be spent.

Taxes aren't considered delinquent until they aren't paid for a year.
