Oak Ridge City Center Grant Terminated

Oak Ridge (WVLT) - Oak Ridge city leaders have voted to terminate a development grant for the City Center project.

The $800,000 grant came from the Economic Development Administration. It was for roadway system improvements for the City Center at the Oak Ridge Mall site.

However, city leaders say they want to terminate the grant because they say there hasn't been much progress made on the project.

"It's really frustrating. We've been working so hard for this inner city, which is when the mall, is this was going to be the premiere place for people to come like in other cities," Oak Ridge city counselor Tom Beehan said.

The good news is another developer is now set to take on another project that should attract shoppers to the community called Crest Point, which will hold a Target and 17 other retail stores.
