Prayer Services For Virginia Tech Victims

In the wake of the tragedy at Virginia Tech, East Tennesseans are finding peace in a variety of ways.

Volunteer TV's Stacy McCloud was at First Baptist Church in Downtown Knoxville this afternoon where for many, a place of prayer and worship is the perfect retreat for coming to grips with yesterday's events.

Knowing that many in the area want to do something to help the victim's of Virginia Tech, the church community at First Baptist will leave the church sanctuary open for prayer both today and tomorrow.

First Baptist Pastor Bill Sheill says its the least they can do to help people grieve.

"Everybody needs a sacred space during a time of real tragedy," he said. "Obviously we can pray anywhere and God will listen to us wherever we are."

First Baptist's doors are open on both days from 11:30 am to 3 pm.

There will also be a special prayer service for the families of victims and for the Virginia Tech community. The service will be on Wednesday at 6 pm inside the church's Fred Brown chapel.

First Baptist Church is located at 510 West Main Street.
