Police: Missing Man Maybe in Alabama

Knoxville (WVLT) - The search has temporarily ended in for a mentally challenged man after police learned he may be in Alabama.

37-year-old Richard Lee Brown's family reported him missing Monday night and say they last saw him on Wednesday.

More than a dozen police officers spent the night looking for Brown, using dogs and a helicopter in the area of Joe Lewis Drive, after someone reportedly saw him on some railroad tracks in that area.

Officers called off the search at 3:00 a.m. Tuesday morning because Brown's son says his father may actually be in Alabama.

Officers are now working with the family to determine exactly where Brown is and to make sure he's okay.

"The family is being very cooperative, trying to help in any way that they can, of course we're all working together to see if we can locate him," said Lt. Greg Hoskins with the Knoxville Police Department.

Brown is a white man, five foot six inches tall, about 170 pounds and may have a beard and mustache.

If you know of Brown's whereabouts, you are asked to call 911.
