UT Will Hand Over Names Of Students Suspected Of Music Piracy

Knoxville (AP) -- University of Tennessee officials say they will comply with a subpoena seeking the identities of students accused of illegally sharing music online.

The Recording Industry Association of America, which represents major record companies, has filed lawsuits against 15 UT students.

The lawsuits are against students who declined to settle in a pre-litigation period. That's when individuals can resolve the claims against them at a discounted rate before a formal lawsuit is filed.

The subpoenas are needed to identify the people whose computers are connected with the internet addresses used to share music.
