Nashville (AP) -- Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama visited the state capitol on Tuesday to get some advice from Tennessee Democrats on how to appeal to voters beyond the party.
The Illinois Senator said he decided to meet with Governor Bredesen and some key legislators while in town for private campaign events hosted by supporters. He had no public events scheduled.
Besides Bredesen, Obama visited the office of Democratic House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh of Covington.
Obama didn't elaborate on what was discussed, but he said Tennessee has smart Democrats who are able to fashion the kind of agenda that attracts the support of independents and republicans.
He told the associated press that this needs to be done at the national level.
