Hundreds of child care centers to receive small libraries

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Governor's Books from Birth Foundation is teaming up with the Department of Human Services to provide small libraries to more than 2,400 child care centers.

Each of the centers will receive a set of 60 children's books. The books will go to all child care centers across the state that receive subsidies to care for the children of low-income families.

DHS also will promote the Books from Birth program in those child care centers. The program supplies a free book each month to registered children between birth and age 5.

All children of those ages in Tennessee are eligible and about 46 percent of them, more than 170,000, currently are registered for the program.
