Pigeon Forge (WVLT) - An East Tennessee christian theatrical group is responding to what they say were anti-Christian comments made by comedian Kathy Griffin.
While the comedian was accepting her award during the a taping of the Creative Arts Emmys last week, several media outlets quote Griffin as saying "A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus." She goes on to say, "This award is my God now."
Those comments did not air during the edited-down show broadcast Saturday night on the E! Network.
In response to the comments, the Miracle Theater in Pigeon Forge bought a full-page ad in USA Today on Monday, asking fellow Christians to stand up for what they believe in.
Their cast and management are expanding their effort to defend Christianity by sponsoring a "One Million Signatures for Christ" petition.
So far, they have about 2,500 signatures.
