Mary Winkler Custody Battle Begins Today

Huntingdon (AP) - The custody battle over the Mary Winkler children is scheduled to be heard today in Huntingdon.

Winkler seeks to regain custody of her three young daughters even though she was convicted of killing their father.

The daughters, 10, 8 and 2-years-old, are living with their father's parents in Carroll County who are trying to adopt them over Winkler's objections.

Winkler was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in April for killing husband Matthew Winkler, a Church of Christ minister in Selmer.

She is on probation from a three-year prison sentence after serving about seven months in custody.

The children's grandparents also have filed a $2 million wrongful death suit against Winkler.
