Hardin Valley Academy Orientation

Knoxville (WVLT) -- Parents and future students of the new West Knox County high school got a chance to see what its all about this evening.

The Hardin Valley Academy is still being built.

When it opens next year, it will give East Tennessee high school students a different sort of curriculum.

Students will be in one of four programs focusing on math and science, health, public service, or liberal arts, similar to a college environment.

The purpose is to help students get an edge for their future.

"Studies show that kids are coming out of high schools not really ready," said Salee Reynolds, principal of Hardin Valley Academy. "They are not ready to go off to college and take a full round of rigorous academics. A lot have to take remedial courses. We are going to do everything we can to prevent that and get them ready."

Today's orientation was aimed at students zoned to the new school.

If you are in the Hardin Valley zone and were unable to attend the event, the school system will mail you the packets and surveys they handed out.
