A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down for kids at ETCH

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Being in the hospital can be a scary thing, especially for kids. But a visit from a special guest, and a spoonful of sugar, helped the medicine go down Thursday.

Cast members from the national tour of "Mary Poppins" visited kids at East Tennessee Children's Hospital Thursday morning. They gave out some memorabilia from the show, including signed posters. They also shared stories with the kids about what it's like to create the magic of "Mary Poppins" on stage.

"We don't really get to see our audience members that much," said Con O'Shea-Creal, who plays Bert in the production. "So it keeps things in perspective for us and reminds us what's really important, and hopefully we can lighten up their day a little bit, and just talk to them. It's just really good for us."

After their stop at the hospital, cast members went back to getting ready for their eight-show run at the Tennessee Theatre. That wraps up Sunday.
