Ala. Walmart shooting suspect dies in Tenn.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- Police say a Tennessee man suspected of killing a man and wounding a woman in a Walmart parking lot in Alabama before fleeing to his home has died.

Huntsville police spokesman Harry Hobbs said 44-year-old Luke Bates of Taft, Tenn., died Tuesday morning, one day after the shooting that left 25-year-old Stan Ryan Malone dead and wounded 41-year-old Martha Ann White outside the Huntsville, Ala., store where they worked. Police believe Bates was targeting White, who was his ex-girlfriend.

Police say Bates then fled to his home about 25 miles north in Tennessee, and a family member found him there with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He died at a Nashville, Tenn., hospital.

White was discharged from a Huntsville, Ala., hospital Monday night.
