Alzheimer's Tennessee receives big donation

Knoxville (WVLT) With Alzheimer's disease becoming a growing epidemic across the country, a local restaurant chain decided it was time to take action.

Tuesday, the owner's of 18 local Arby's restaurants gave Alzheimer's Tennessee a donation for $186,000. Owners Tom and John Johnson say the donation is carrying on their father's legacy, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's before he died.

Alzheimer's Tennessee organizers say the disease is an issue everyone should be prepared to battle.

“It effects so many people, and it will probably effect us too some day,” Carrie Gandy said. “We are doing what we can for treatment, and hopefully prevent this horrible disease.”

People can help by buying special coupon books at area Arby's locations. Proceeds will go towards aiding 120,000 families with people facing Alzheimer's.

Coupon books go on sale Monday, November 4.
