BIg Kahuna Wing Festival cooks up over 60,000 wings for charity

KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- World's Fair Park was a hot scene Saturday as 30 teams cooked up chicken wings, their own style.

They competed in a wing competition judged by 30 people from the community including Local 8 News' Lauren Davis, Whitney Kent, Bob Yarbrough, Michele Silva along with Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett.

The winners: a team calling themselves the "Flusterclucks!"

The $10 charge at the door allowed attendees to sample each team's entry.

There was also a wing eating competition and lots of entertaining on stage including the Aaron Tracy Band and Jaystorm.

Former NFL player Gary Brown came to town as a major supporter of the Ronald McDonald House.

RMC will split the proceeds with the Empty Stocking Fund.

Aubrey's Restaurants teamed up with Certified Angus Beef and Eagle Distributing to offer food and cold beverages in a VIP area.
Some of the limited number of $100 tickets were also handed out through contests held in weeks leading up to Saturday's event.

A first and a success for founder, Matt Beeler of BKW Seasonings, who is already planning for next year's festival.

It will be June 21,2014, but he may need to find a bigger venue!
