Books in the spotlight for reading festival

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- The Knox County Public Library kicks off a day full of storybook characters, storytelling, healthy cooking and science experiments for the ninth annual Children's Festival of Reading.

It's an event to get kids and parents alike excited about reading through the summer months. A good way to keep reading is by signing up for the library's summer reading program which is one of the many activities you can enjoy.

There will be authors including Deborah Diesen, author of "The Pout-Pout Fish" picture book and Jarrett Krosoczka, graphic novel author of "Lunch Lady".

Highlights during the festival include over 50 booths hosted by different community groups sharing educational activities. The Knoxville Zoo will showcase "Animal Tales" story time and storybook character Curious George is the Grand Marshall of the "Parade of Books" at noon through the park.

This family friendly event is on Saturday, May 18 from 10:00 a.m.- 3:00 World's Fair Park.
