Using Comcast XFINITY for your internet? Prepare for new caps and fees

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Comcast customers in Knoxville may soon find themselves hitting a wall when going online. Earlier this month, the cable company announced its XFINITY Internet service will soon be capped at 300 GB per month.

Additional bandwidth will be available in 50 GB blocks for $10 each, the company said.

Customers will receive in-browser and email notifications when they begin to approach their 300 GB ceiling, specifically when they hit 80%, 90%, and 100% of that usage, explained Comcast.

The company has also set up a Usage Meter where people can track their current usage as well as their usage from the past three months. They have a Data Usage Calculator.

Users who surpass that limit will automatically be charged $10 for an additional 50 GB block. To help customers get acclimated to the new ceiling, Comcast has promised customers three courtesy months in which they can exceed the limit without being charged.

Knoxville is one of nine cities in the southeast affected by the change. Also affected were Huntsville and Mobile, Ala.; Augusta and Savannah, Ga.; Central Kentucky; Jackson, Miss.; Memphis, Tenn.; and Charleston, S.C.
