PlanET hopes to improve several different aspects of five East Tennessee counties.

Knoxville (WVLT) Officials in five East Tennessee counties hope to build up the area's reputation.

That's why officials from Knox, Blount, Anderson, Loudon and Union counties met Tuesday in order to discuss various strategies to improve nearly every aspect governments can affect. The theme was “Committing to a Stronger East Tennessee.”

The group's targets range from education to environment, and several targets in between.
One officials said it's important to remember everything is connected.

“Economic development is connected to the environment,” Executive Direct of the Knoxville-Knox County Metropolitan Commission Mark Donaldson said. “It's connected to the towns that we live in, and really the quality of life that we have here. They're all huge assets as we try to move forward.”

Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero, Oak Ridge Mayor Tom Beehan, Maryville Mayor Tom Taylor and several others attended.

The group is looking to enact their plans by 2014.
