Horse Haven worker hurt hauling horses; needs help

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Horse Haven of Tennessee (HHT) equine manager was badly injured on Thursday as she helped rescue 19 horses from a trainer accused of "soring" them, according to haven's website. (link)

Stephanie, as she was identified, was seriously hurt when a young, stud colt, which was obviously in pain, struck her with heavy weighted pads that were held on with metal bands and screws. She is recovering at home with multiple face and leg lacerations and a broken nose.

Stephanie has no insurance, so her fellow volunteers are trying to raise the money to help pay her medical bills. According to HHT, she has been with them for over 12 years and is a well-respected handler.

The colt was quickly recaptured after breaking away. A veterinarian checked him out and found he was okay.
