PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Pigeon Forge's first Green Hotel was recognized on Thursday for efforts to save the environment.

At the Pigeon Forge Hospitality Association Meeting, Dobbin Callahan, President of Skye Con Environmental Consulting, presented the Inn on the River with an official certification. The Inn on the River has made more than $200,000 dollars worth of renovations the past year to meet the standards.

Karl Thomas, Managing Partner at the Inn on the River, says he hopes more Sevier County properties will make the switch to green.
"I watched Chattanooga do it and they took about half of their hotels downtown and pushed green and it just makes the city so much greener and it makes it a much more desirable place to stay," said Thomas.

Thomas says the hotel has replaced all lighting with florescent and energy efficient bulbs. He says all sink aerators have been replaced and they've developed an optional laundry service for guests to reuse their linens and towels.

Thomas says future plans include changing out heat and air units with energy efficient, motion activated units.
