Hawkins Co. deputies seize more than 40 animals from unsanitary conditions

ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Hawkins County Sheriff's Office pulled 40 animals from a Rogersville home after responding to reports of explosions outside the home.

The animals recovered included birds, cats, dogs, lizards, fish, guinea pigs and rats.

A portion of the animals was caged and some were not.

Five animals were found to already be dead, including a guinea pig, a lizard and three birds.

Deputies say the animals were living in very unsanitary conditions.

Deputies were called to the home after, Margaret Agusti, the homeowner called 9-1-1 to report hearing several explosions outside her as well as numerous individuals being around her home.

Deputies found no sign of any explosions or anybody around her home.

Agusti was transported to a local hospital via ambulance in order to receive further treatment.

The animals were transported to the Hawkins County Humane Society for further care and a veterinary assessment.
