Jefferson County kids learn about law enforcement

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Hundreds of kids from Rush Strong Elementary spent Friday morning learning about the dangers of drugs.

The event wrapped up Red Ribbon Week.

Dressed as their favorite characters from books, they got a first hand look at emergency choppers, K-9 teams, the effects of alcohol on driving and the importance of seatbelts.

Dr. Charles Edmonds, from Jefferson County Schools said, "We think it's having an impact. It's a never ending battle, because it's so prevelant in society today. If it's in the community some of it finds its way into the school. So we're happy to do all we can to combat the problem, and anything we can do to help children. "
