Crimetracker: KCSO arrests 12 men in prostitution sting

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- In just a few keystrokes, men and women can log on to and buy or sell sex at their fingertips.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office arrested 12 men at a West Knoxville hotel for patronizing prostitution in connection to this site.

In the past year, more than 100 people have been arrested.

"We've arrested a doctor, a firefighter, school teachers," said Martha Dooley with the Knox County Sheriff's Office. "We've had people from different states who have been driving through Tennessee because they've looked at the page, they know where to go and set up those appointments."

That's just one of the many reasons authorities are cracking down on the problem. They say prostitution often comes with drugs and violence.

"Most of these girls are habitual drug addicts, so what they're doing is fueling their drug addiction," Dooley said.

Some of the women who are willing to have sex for money carry weapons with them, according to authorities.

"We've confiscated 5 firearms. Some use it as protection, others to rob customers," Dooley said.

It's an activitiy officers hope to put out of business.
