Knoxville lawyer running for U.S. Senate

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A big political season is coming up in 2014 with U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander's seat up for grabs.

A Knoxville lawyer has already thrown his name into the race.

Although he's never held an elected office, Democrat Terry Adams thinks it is time for a shakeup on Capitol Hill.

"I think that the climate right now in Washington is so bad and it is toxic. We really need fresh faces in Washington D.C. We need people who are veterans, people who have run a business, people who know how to make a payroll. That's what I've been doing for the past 10 years. I haven't been sitting in Washington messing things up," said Adams.

State Representative Joe Carr is challenging Senator Alexander for the GOP bid.

Democrat Larry Crim and republican Brenda Lenard have also announced they'll run.
