Knoxville man on verge of NFL tryout

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.(WVLT)--Michael McBath is a tv guy with a dream.

By day he pushes buttons and runs tapes as a master control operator for WVLT.

But his passion is to be on an NFL highlight reel Sunday afternoons.

The NFL Scouting Combine is where the cream of the crop of college football players are showcased for a chance at the big time.

Michael McBath is also here, defying the odds.

He told Local 8 News, "I heard a lot of people say there's no way you'll make it or you won't get an opportunity or no way anybody's gonna look at you, you didn't ever play college football.

In fact he never played after his junior year at Bearden High School.

The night before the combine, McBath met the director of the camp, he told Michael,
"Do you mind if I get with the NFL Network to follow you around?."

Despite a muscle pull, Michael wasn't about to quit.

" This is my dream I'm not going home, I'm going to literally die out here, and they're going to have to drag me off because I'm not leaving."

McBATH has never been one to back down at a challenge. In 2010 he ran for Knox County Mayor.

AT 295 pounds there were heart problems.
"My doctor said find you a gym, get in there"

Michael lost 105 pounds in just six months.

French Philosopher Rene' Descartes once said, pay regard to what people do rather than what they say.

For Michael McBath he's back up the talk with results.

"Here is little old me, never went to college, never played football past my junior year".

Now the NFL is calling.
