CROSSVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Crossville man was arrested and charged with the murder of his girlfriend.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department, John Giles Jr. has been charged with first degree murder in the death of Kimberly Ann Batty, 58.

Batty was found beaten to death inside her Fairfield Glade home back in November.

"He has been a suspect since early on in the case. When she was discovered in the home, she was discovered in the living room covered in blood. "An autposy revealed she had multiple injuries and strangulation was the cause of death," Chief Investigator Casey Cox told Local 8 News.

Cox said Giles and Batty had been dating about four months before her death. But officers had never been called out to the home before.

According to investigators, Giles served in the U.S. Army. He doesn't have a criminal history, but did get in trouble during his service. Cox said the incidents involved some offenses with young girls.

Batty had been living in Crossvile for several years now, alone. Her family lives out of state.

Giles was booked on a $2,000,000 bond. He's set to be in court January 25.
