2 dead after Sevier County cabin fire | UPDATE

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Two people are dead after a cabin fire.

Dispatch received the call around 4:30 AM Saturday from Cabins at the Crossing on Little Cabin Loop in Sevierville.

On Sunday, officials confirmed the names of the victims as 56-year-old Ricky Hudson and five-year-old Tayveon Temple. Hudson was Temple's step grandfather.

Sevier County Fire Marshal Jay Breeden says, "It did appear that Mr. Hudson did suffer injuries while he was attempting to save his family."

Officials say when crews arrived, the three-story cabin was approximately 75% involved.

"I saw a flickering in the window and I thought it was a fire truck so I opened the door on the upper level porch and extreme heat and just a huge blaze, the whole house was completely engulfed," says Aaron Bell, who was staying at a cabin nearby.

More than 20 people from Indiana and Louisville, Ky. were staying in the cabin. Four of them were taken by ambulance to Leconte Medical Center with injuries ranging from minor cuts to broken bones.

Investigators are still working to recover Temple's remains.

Local and state officials are conducting the investigation.
