Military team detonating old explosives in Morgan Co.

WARTBURG, Tenn. (AP) -- Federal explosives officials say military experts are detonating several dozen mortar rounds found at a Morgan County junk yard.

Michael Knight, a spokesman for the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said authorities are deactivating some rounds to preserve them.

Knight said authorities were evacuating some nearby homes before setting off the rounds, which date to the World War II era.

The rounds were discovered Sunday after a report of a house fire in the Coalfield community on Hillbilly Hollow Road.
