Obama, Francis find common ground, sharp divisions

ROME (AP) President Barack Obama says he was incredibly moved by Pope Francis' insights on world problems during their long-anticipated first meeting.

Obama says the two discussed responsibility to care for the poor. He says he is moved by the pontiff's compassion and his encouragement for all to have a moral perspective on world problems and not think in terms of self-interest.

The Vatican says that during a nearly hour-long meeting, the pope and Obama discussed differences over abortion and birth control. But the Vatican said in a brief statement that they also discussed immigration reform and human trafficking.

Obama spoke at a news conference with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in Rome.
