KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Speeding and drinking were both factors in the wreck that killed a 64 year-old Knoxville man Sunday afternoon, according to Knoxville Police Dept. spokesperson Darrell DeBusk. The driver of the car in which he riding, Richard Burks, faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide.

Police said, Burks and Shaheed Abdullah were driving down Brooks Ave. in East Knoxville when he lost control of his car around 1:00 p.m. The car went off the road and slammed into a utility pole, snapping it in two.

Abdullah was rushed to UT Medical Center where he later died. Burks received minor injuries, but was not treated for them. He did go to UT Medical Center, though, for a mandatory blood draw.

In addition to vehicular homicide, Burks also faces charges of driving on a revoked license and not having insurance.
