Pilot CEO Jimmy Haslam named in FBI Affidavit

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) --- Local 8 News has obtained court documents used by the FBI in their investigation of Pilot Flying J.

Using multiple sources inside the company they allege a system designed to defraud customers out of rebate money.

This system, the affidavit claims, dates back to 2008.

The unnamed source inside the company also claims that CEO Jimmy Haslam knew about the rebate scam and was present in sales meetings when the scam was being discussed.

The company allegedly had nicknames for the Rebate program, calling it "manual rebates," manuals," "many," "cost-plussing," "screwing," and "f*ing".

One employee described a scenario where a company might be promised $10,000 a month for rebates but only given $7,500.

If the company noticed Pilot would claim it was a computer error and give them the money owed.

Jimmy Haslam released a response to the affidavit right before 7pm.

It reads:

“I’ve read the affidavits. I now understand more clearly the questions the federal investigators are exploring.

“I maintain that the foundation of this company is built on its integrity and that any willful wrongdoing by any employee of this company at any time is intolerable.

“We will continue to cooperate with the federal investigation and continue our own investigation in these allegations.

“I value the relationships we have with our customers, our vendors and our team members across this country and regret that they have to go through this with us, but I trust and believe their faith in this company and its principles has never been misplaced.”
