New pictures released to identify men after robbery

NEWPORT, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Police in Newport are looking for clues and suspects, after a bank was robbed Wednesday afternoon.

Police Chief Maurice Shults confirms that the Tennessee State Bank was robbed around 3 p.m. Shults says the two men walked into the bank and demanded cash. He says the robbers confronted a Newport Police Officer on the way out.

Shults says the two men ordered him to turn over his weapon, of which he did. Shults says he commends the officer for the action and says that action prevented what could have turned into a hostage situation.

"All we know is an assault type riffle," said Shults. "We do have surveillance video that we are working with the FBI to retrieve from the bank."

Police say the two men left in a Silver GMC Acadia vechile headed towards North Carolina.

The FBI released new pictures on Thursday, including a picture of the car the men were said to be driving.

The chief says no one was hurt during the robbery.
