Power out overnight at UT dorm, students evacuated

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The University of Tennessee closed a residence hall overnight Wednesday after an electrical failure.

More than 400 students were told Wednesday evening they would have to vacate North Carrick residence hall until daylight. Most stayed with friends or family members overnight, although the TV station said the university offered to make arrangements for them.

Electricians were testing the circuitry in the building and hoped to restore power later Thursday. It wasn't clear whether the failure at a circuit panel was related to storms that rolled through Knoxville Wednesday.
