Ruby Tuesday taps Darden Restaurant CMO for next President/CEO

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Ruby Tuesday, Inc. has turned to the Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of the world's largest full-service restaurant company to lead it into the future. On Monday, the Maryville-based chain announced J Buenttgen will take over as President/CEO starting December 1st.

"It is an honor to lead Ruby Tuesday and I am excited to join the Company and work with the seasoned management team and dedicated team members to create value for our shareholders," said Buentten in a statement released by the company. "I believe this will be an exciting period of growth for the Company and I am eager to begin.”

Buenttgen has more than 20 years of experience in restaurant and consumer industries, including his most recent role as CMO of Orlando-based Darden Restaurants, Inc. the company said.

"We have tremendous opportunity ahead of us and JJ’s strategic thinking and brand marketing experience in the restaurant industry will be very valuable as we look to build upon our current momentum in order to drive future growth and value," said incoming Chairman of the Board Matt Drapkin.

Drapkin was recently appointed the next Chairman, following the announced retirement of founder Sandy Beall, who served as Chairman, president, and CEO. Drapkin will also begin on December 1st.

“It has been a privilege to lead this great brand and team over the past 40 years. I am very excited about JJ’s appointment as CEO and look forward to working with him and the Board to ensure a smooth transition,” added Beall.
