Shooting victim tells KPD suspects tried robbing him during drug deal

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Knoxville Police Dept. identified the man found shot between West Town Mall and Papermill Dr. on Wednesday night as Michael Fife. The 29 year-old reportedly told investigators he was shot when trying to illegal narcotics.

According to Fife, he was in the shooter's car shortly before 8:00 p.m. when the suspect pulled a gun and tried robbing him. Fife said he lunged for the gun, but the suspect regained control of the gun shot him.

The suspects then dropped Fife off near Papermill Road. The victim was taken to UT Medical Center with critical but non-life-threatening injuries.
