BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Lane closures expected to last more than a month are planned for part of "The Dragon" where a slide happened in 2012.

TDOT says the work planned for the slide area is intended to make a more permanent fix to the problem that caused the slide in the first place.

Blount County Partnership has been working on getting the word out that the closure is one lane that effects a small area and the road is still open.

"The road's open, you just gotta be careful for that one little stretch. The dragon is open for business and we're happy to have people in," said Jeff Muir, Spokesperson for the Blount County Partnership.

The Dragon is a big draw for tourists seeking a thrill on the road.

Motorcyclists tend to rev up their bikes for the thrill of the twists and turns.

"I like looking for stuff like that around home, it's not like this, it's exhilarating, it's a fun road," said Sam Gurreri, who's visiting from Pennsylvania. "I don't think it'll stop us at all. We're just out to ride and have fun."

The lane closure will start Thursday and is expected to last through August 31.
