UT fans react to latest rumors

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Big Orange Nation is still waiting to find out which coach is going to lead it's football program.

The Local 8 Sports team has been reporting both Mike Gundy of Oklahoma State and Charlie Strong at Louisville have been UT's top choices to replace Derek Dooley.

CBSsports.com reported this morning that Gundy was officially offered the job. But then came word from Gundy's camp that he's decided to stay put.

There's been no such response from Charlie Strong, who's also believed to be mulling over an offer from UT.

We wanted to see if the coaching search has had any impact on business around campus.

We stopped by a popular bar near campus, the Goal Post Tavern.

The search hasn't impacted the number of customers, but definitely dominates the conversation.

On game days, this place is usually full. But as the weather and expectations cooled, so did the number of customers.

Around the ceiling there are reminders of past Vol glory, a place fans want to get back to soon.

"The kids that come in are definitely frustrated. They want their team to win, we were a top program in the 90's and the early 2000's. Just a dolphin effect, and they want to see them win," said Dave Cooke, a manager at Goal Post Tavern.

Inside Rocky Top Books, you can find of UT merchandise wall-to-wall.
There's also a portion of the goal post from the 1998 Florida game, the kick start to the national championship season.

It's a reminder of the past, that seems so far away. As fans put it, not only is UT coach-less, but they aren't sure who wants to come here.

"Seeing rumors and stuff, and none of it has come true. So I'm getting used to being disappointed by UT football, as bad as that sounds," said Terry Jay from Rocky Top Books.
