Cocke County woman sees justice for sister, nephew killed

COCKE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT)-- It was an emotional day for Christina Cowan as she faced the two people who took everything from her, Adam Edwards and Martha Shelton.

"He was facing us directly. Looking right at us. He was just blank. Smiling," Cowan said.

She said Edwards showed no remorse for the murder of Terri Henderson, Sherman Ellison and their two-year-old son Riley.

Edwards and Shelton killed the Cocke County family then set their home on fire May 26. They both pleaded guilty to three counts of felony murder.

"My tears are for them. My tears are not for Adam. Adam you deserve a hell of a lot more than what you just got," Edwards sister said in court Monday and then offered her apologies to Cowan.

"I didn't want to accept it at first, but when she came to me and hugged me, I accepted her apology," Cowan said.

But it's Edwards who Cowan said she can't forgive.

"He was my neighbor my whole life.To think he would do that to them after we've been that good to him,"Cowan said as she broke down.

She said her life isn't only incomplete without her sister but her nephew whose life was cut short.

"I can only imagine what he would have been. You'd enver know what he would have been ," she said.

Cowan said she hopes to clean up what's left of the mobile home, so that neighbors aren't reminded of what happened each time they drive by.
