2006 Loss To LSU Lingers With Vols

KNOXVILLE (AP) -- If Tennessee beats LSU tomorrow for the SEC title, the Vols will earn an automatic bid to play in the Sugar Bowl on January 1st.

If the Vols lose to LSU, they will play in either the Capitol One Bowl, Chick-Fil-A Bowl, Cotton Bowl or Outback Bowl.

It all will be sorted out Sunday night and Monday when the BCS bids are announced, then the other bowl bids.

Meanwhile, Tennessee's 28-24 loss last year to LSU still lingers with the players and coach Phillip Fulmer.

The Vols went up 24-21 in the fourth quarter, only to watch Tigers quarterback JaMarcus Russell toss the game-winning touchdown to Early Doucet with only seconds remaining. The loss knocked the Vols out of the SEC championship race.

Fulmer was upset over what he believed was a fumble by Russell in that last LSU drive. The officials did not rule the play a fumble, allowing the drive to continue.
